Equity Loans: An Introduction

Equity Loans: An Introduction

Anyone who wishes to apply for an equity loan should learn as much as they can about the many different loans available to find one that suits their needs the best. Note that some equity loans have annual fees, closing costs and require application while others do not. There are also a number of lenders who provide 100% tax deductible loans, hence offering additional savings to the borrower.

One of the types of loans available is called fixed-rate loans. The advantage of this type of loan is that it allows the borrower to transfer the variable rate principal into a fixed rate alternative. Despite this being so, the lender may stipulate the amount available for conversion and may even fix boundaries to the loan options.Home equity loans may not indicate that there are closing costs payable, but if one reads the fine print, one will notice that the borrower is liable to pay closing cost on a fixed amount.

One instance where closing costs may be applicable is when the borrower applies for less than the amount agreed by the lender. There are also a few other loans that may require the borrower to pay the cost of appraisal. It is necessary to read the terms and conditions when one applies for a loan, as many lenders don't advertise certain clauses regarding exclusions and restrictions, etc.

By reading the fine print one is likely to pick up many vital details that the lender may choose not to divulge.

Equity loans are called as such because the borrower uses his house as collateral. Because of this fact home equity offers better interest and repayment rates and hence save money.

Failure to read the fine print may cause you to sign for a loan that gets you further into debt, as equity loans seek to roll the high rates of interest from credit cards into lower repayments. Not following the terms as set out in the fine print may result in you having to pay excessive fees you cannot afford.

9 Scary Reasons Why You Should Improve Your Credit Rating Now

9 Scary Reasons Why You Should Improve Your Credit Rating Now

Everybody knows that having bad credit means you probably can’t get a home loan. That’s obvious! But there’s more, and it may shock you just how bad off you may be.

There are several dozen ways a bad credit score can virtually destroy you, and yet most people are oblivious to them.

But in this article, They Are Revealed. If you haven’t taken this topic seriously before, NOW is truly the time to discover these 9 scary ways your bad credit can haunt you. Furthermore, these 9 reasons are the best incentive for you to start fixing your credit today, without another wasted second. You won’t find better motivation.

Bad credit hurts you worst in the following areas:
• Car insurance
• Car loans
• Employment
• Housing
• Utilities
• Cell phones
• Elective medical procedures
• School loans
• Marriage

1- People with bad credit will pay anywhere from 20 – 50% more for auto insurance than if it were good. This is because many insurance companies now are basing your insurance premiums on your credit scores. Insurance companies call it “profiling.”
This is costing you $50-$100 per month, which could be going toward productive expenses like your retirement, or a kid’s college fund.
uch! That stings a little. But keep reading… We’re just getting started.

2- Some car dealers now give different mark-ups to people with bad credit. Specifically, Honda Finance Corporation will charge a 3.5% markup to consumers with bad credit. General Motors Acceptance Corporation and Ford Motor Credit Corporation take a similar approach. In other words, if you were buying a $30,000 Honda and you have bad credit, you will pay an EXTRA $1,050.The math is simple. Basically it means more money out the window every time you need a car. (New or Used.)

3- 70% of employers are now checking credit ratings. From their point of view, they are afraid you will have more family problems, creditors will be calling you at work, or that they may have to garnish your wages, if your credit looks bad. Bottom line is they just don’t want to deal with the hassle. Their choice is obvious. They simply give the job to someone else. How much does that cost you? Can you even put a number on that? YIKES!

4- Landlords want to rent to someone they feel confident will always pay the rent. A recent survey tells us that only 48% of renters know that a rental property owner may reject tenants based on poor credit scores. How would you like to be homeless? Or, almost just as bad is being stuck with a dumpy house on the wrong side of the tracks, all because of your poor credit?

5- The same survey tells us that only 30% of people know that a low credit score could likely cost you an extra $500 in the form of a security deposit when getting signed up for utilities.Utility companies are now pulling credit scores to determine who pays a deposit and who doesn’t.This conversation keeps getting more expensive by the minute, doesn’t it?

6- Even cell phone providers are looking at your credit score now and if it’s not high enough guess who’s paying a higher rate for “pay-as-you-go” service? You guessed it; the same person who’s paying more for their car, house, utilities, and who can’t get a decent job.But that’s not all… I’m not done yet.

7- Doctors will NOT perform elective procedures on a payment plan such as laser eye surgery, dental procedures, cosmetic surgery, and more, for individuals with poor credit scores. They will only accept cash paid up front.

8- School lenders are now denying student loans to students with low credit scores. Imagine this…If you have bad credit and your one semester away from getting your degree, you can easily be left high and dry without hope of financing or finishing your degree. It’s not a matter of paying the higher interest rate. You just won’t get the loan. Fair or not, that’s how it is. If you were the student who couldn’t get a loan to finish your schooling, you will obviously have difficulty getting a decent paying job. Furthermore, you will be thrust right into that “hiring cycle” described in the first point of this article. Whereby an employer may look at their credit score to help make their hiring decision AND on top of that you don’t even have the needed credential because you had to cut your schooling short. So what do you do? Perhaps you could use your spouse’s credit to help you get a loan.

9- That might work if your spouse has good credit but did I mention the number one cause for divorce in America is money problems? Just ask Dr. Phil. Let’s look at the situation…. You pay an extra $50 a month for car insurance, an extra $50 per month for your car, you can’t get a student loan to finish school nor will anyone hire you, and you spent your last $500 paying for a security deposit to the utilities. By now you can’t even afford to prepay your pay-as-you-go cell phone, and the bills you do have are too high, because of this whole “bad credit” garbage.

You couldn’t get a home loan if you tried but fortunately you could get a rental. Although, it isn’t on the good side of town, if you know what I mean. We don’t even need to mention the wish list you have for your health and wellness (dental, vision, cosmetic, surgery, etc). I mean forget about that stuff. You are in survival mode here. Is your spouse happy about this situation? It usually causes a little friction…… to say the very least. Most couples in America call it STRESS and FIGHTING. We call this the downward spiral.

And the worst part of this whole conversation is that I could actually keep going with another dozen (or more) VERY significant and UGLY reasons to avoid bad credit. Including interest rates, home loans (or lack there of), retirement issues, promotions, friends/relationships, credit cards, investing, and more.

The point is PROTECT YOUR CREDIT and if you already have bad credit, get help and fix it now. This may require several months or even a few years of dedicated work and sacrifice. But rest assured, it will be worth it.

Search out professionals to guide you through the repair process. Stay focused and dedicated. It is not hopeless. Break the cycle now and get yourself on the road to financial freedom.

What Is Laser Eye Surgery And Can It Give Me A Better Vision?

What Is Laser Eye Surgery And Can It Give Me A Better Vision?

The development of computer technology the recent years has had a huge impact on the medical science. Today this technology is used in every aspect of medical field. This is also true when it comes to eye surgery. Nowadays, there are many types of surgery available to correct a persons vision problems. Laser eye surgery is one of the most advanced, and is used especially for the correction of problems like myopia (near sightedness), hyperopia (far sightedness), and astigmatism (distorted vision).

Why is the reason such problems occur in the first place? The main cause of such problems is problems with focusing the image on the retina of the eye and the reason for that varies upon three different factors:

the distance from the back of the eye to the front of it, the shape of the cornea which is the curved clear front surface of the human eye above the iris and the pupil. It provides approximately two thirds of the eye's ability to focus.the shape of the lens.

The shape of the cornea is changed using special devices during a laser eye surgery. One such device is called excimer laser. What this procedure does is producing a laser beam that vaporizes tissue around the eye. It actually removes targeted areas of the eye tissue without harming the surrounding area. Therefore It also goes under the name if "cold" laser.

Laser Surgery ProceduresThe most common types of laser surgery procedures are PRK (Photo-Refractive Keractomy), available since early nineties and LASIK Eye Surgery (Laser Assisted in situ Keratomileusis), first introduced in mid nineties.

The PRK procedure take small amounts of eye tissue on the surface of the eye and vaporizes it using a beam of light in this type of surgery. This procedure removes enough tissue to reshape the cornea and correct vision. The recovery takes a week or less.

The LASIK surgery procedure involves a series of steps that are considered complicated. Step one is to cut a flap of the cornea and lifted. Step two: the surgeon removes precise amounts of the inside layers of the cornea using a laser guided by a computer. Step three: the surgeon puts the flap back in its place and the eye heals fast by itself. What are the benefits and the risks?

Highly skilled and well prepared medical specialists perform the Laser eye surgery. For majority of the patients, the results are very good and their lives are significantly improved. They can throw away their glasses or contact lenses after a successful surgery.

Keep in mind the importance of having realistic expectations about laser eye surgery. In some cases it might be necessary to wear glasses for reading if the patient is over 40 years of age. The eyes continue to change after the surgery and you may have to wear prescription glasses or lenses at some point in your life. A second laser eye surgery is normally not ruled out if the first one is not entirely successful.

One side effect of PRK laser eye surgery, is that the patient may have a blurry vision throughout the healing process. Fortunately, this generally clears up later.

Regression is another side effect from such surgery. What happens is that the eye returns back to its' previous condition. This might happen within six months and if it happens you might need another surgery to correct it or you have to wear glasses or contact lenses.

The negative side effects are very less in a LASIK surgery. Even the healing of the eye is faster. Since a LASIK involves cutting of some tissues of the eye the complications and risks are a bit higher than the other eye surgery procedures we have mentioned.

The Various Types Of Corrective Eye Surgery

The Various Types Of Corrective Eye Surgery

There are many types of corrective eye surgery available for people today. However, it’s important to determine which one is right for you? Your condition and the treatment your doctor advises will best help determine what route you should go. If you have been diagnosed with an eye condition that requires corrective steps you may want to read up on your options so you can make the best educated decision that is right for you.

There are such treatments as Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), which uses mild heat on the periphery of the cornea to reduce collagen; the heat used is from radio waves. This is a very quick procedure lasting around 5 minutes. There is also a procedure where doctors can attach corrective lens right to the eye, Implantable Contact Lenses, helping to treat severe nearsightedness and farsightedness. There is also Intacs, which were mainly used to treat mild nearsightedness but are now mainly used to treat corneal bulging

Other forms of corrective eye surgery include such procedures as IOLs or Intraocular Lenses. This form of treatment has been around for decades and is generally implanted during cataract surgery, thus helping patients to see better at a distance. However, patients were still required to use glasses to see close up. Today, this procedure offers patients the ability to have a lens that moves or allows the patient to see at all levels (close, intermediate and at a distance) without the use of reading glasses.

LTK or Laser Thermal Keratoplasty, which uses mild heat from lasers, similar to CK, correcting farsightedness or presbyopia. This procedure takes only 3 minutes. There is also SEB’s or Scleral Expansion Bands, which are new implantation devices to treat presbyopia also. This procedure takes about 30 minutes and involves placing 4 PMMA segments just under the surface of the white part of the eye. This surgery is still in FDA investigational stages in the USA, so you will want to check with your doctor to see if it is fully approved before seeking this type of treatment.

There are many options and types of corrective eye surgeries. Knowing the facts and familiarizing yourself with the different procedures will help you make the best-educated choice. If you are unsure which is right for you, then check with your doctor and let him or her know your concerns. Your doctor would be more than happy to go over everything with you and help you feel comfortable in making the right choice.

Let's Take A Closer Look At Laser Eye Surgery

Let's Take A Closer Look At Laser Eye Surgery

Our vision is probably the most utilized sensory faculty that we have. For most people the ability to see clearly is absolutely vital. Unfortunately, our eyes frequently suffer from diseases, abuse, and genetic eye defects that may lead to poor eyesight. To help us ease our burdens with these problems, we would normally use corrective lenses such as glasses and contact lenses. But recently a new treatment for eye ailments has surfaced. Commonly called laser eye surgery, it is a procedure that restores your normal eyesight without the aid of corrective lenses.

You may think that that I’m old-fashioned but to me laser eye surgery is quite unnecessary. For one it costs a whole lot more than ordinary lenses. Why would you spend a lot of cash for a surgery when cheap glasses can produce the same results? Since this type of treatment is relatively new not a lot of research has been done to determine if it has any adverse consequences for those who have tried this procedure.

For me vision is too important and precious to gamble with. What I’m trying to communicate is that like other surgery, laser eye surgery poses possible risks. Infection, tissue scarring, and other dangers are all too possible for those who risks their eyes in this procedure. Why would I risk my vision on an untested, expensive, quick fix solution when reliable glasses can achieve similar effects?

Well, of course laser eye surgery sounds and seems a lot more attractive than good-old-corrective lenses. And who wouldn’t want to try this latest, state of the art procedure? It’s definitely more exciting to have laser eye surgery than to just have boring eye-glasses. But is it really worth the risks? I have been wearing glasses since I was thirteen and they worked just fine for me.

Other than the experience of being teased, eye glasses have no major inconveniences. I would prefer being called a nerd than trying a dangerous surgery that and damaged my eyes permanently. If you are seriously considering trying laser eye surgery, I suggest that you weigh the risks carefully. I feel that it would be wise to stick with eye glasses or at least wait for a few more years when the techniques of the procedure have been refined and most of the dangers have been eliminated.

Preparing For Lasik Surgery

Preparing For Lasik Surgery

Getting ready for any surgery is a tedious process and preparing for LASIK is no different. One must ensure that everything is ready and that you look good. While preparing for LASIK isn't as difficult as with some other surgeries, there are still a few things you need to take care of before you go in for LASIK.

If you are wearing contact lenses, take note. You must remove your contact lenses a few weeks before you have your LASIK consultation. The reason for this is because some contact lenses reshape your cornea themselves, hence causing problems with LASIK. Here are some FDA recommendations based on your contact lenses:

" Soft contact lenses should be removed and not worn for at least two weeks prior to your LASIK evaluation." Rigid gas permeable lenses should be removed and not worn for at least three weeks prior to LASIK evaluation." Hard lenses should be removed and not worn for at least four weeks prior to LASIK evaluation.

This is done so as to allow your cornea to regain its shape and size. Once you arrive for your consultation the LASIK surgeon will be able to take the true measurements of the shape and size of your cornea and design the procedure around your measurements.

When you meet the LASIK surgeon to talk about your upcoming surgery you should tell him a little bit about yourself. Tell him/her about any past or present medical conditions you suffer from. Also tell him of any medications you may be taking or are allergic to. It is very important that you inform your doctor about all of this so that he can decide if you're a good candidate for LASIK.

After you've shared your personal information with the doctor, he/she will then use this information to if you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery. Ask him to explain to you the risks and benefits of the surgery as well as other alternatives. In other words he should tell you what to expect all the way, from beginning to end.

Don't use any perfume, cream, lotion or make-up the day before the surgery. This is to prevent any debris form getting into your eye. The LASIK surgeon may even ask you to scrub and wash out your eyes thoroughly before LASIK surgery to prevent any type of infection from occurring.

Lastly, it would be prudent that you arrange with a family member to be transported to and from the lasik center. Before the commencement of the LASIK surgery the doctor may order that you be given medicine to help you relax. Such medicine could impair your vision and reaction time, but it is nothing to be alarmed about. After LASIK surgery you may have impaired vision and may need a few days just to recover your eyesight, hence the need to have someone drive you to and from the lasik center.

The "real" Risks Associated With Lasik Surgery

The "real" Risks Associated With Lasik Surgery

Every surgical procedure poses inherent risks and in this respect LASIK is no different. It just so happens that when a patient's body is opened up and different tools are used that bacteria of some sort can enter the body. Not only that, the patient may have a reaction caused by the medication. There are risks to LASIK surgery too, but they are fewer and far in between.

The risks associated with LASIK continue to drop as the medical establishment perfect the equipment and refine their processes. The risks involved in LASIK further drop as patients become better informed and therefore choose the best doctors for their surgery.

Doctors too improved their screening methods to ensure that only the right candidates are admitted to have LASIK surgery. The latest research now shows that with the right pre-testing and surgical care in place, the risk of complications occurring in LASIK surgery is less than 1%.

The risk most common in LASIK surgery is a complication relating to the flap created by the surgeon to cover the cornea. In traditional LASIK surgery the flap is created when the surgeon cuts tissue with a surgical tool called a microkeratome. Since this tool, which is basically a metal blade is handled by a human being there is the risk of human error occurring.

When this type of traditional LASIK is performed the risk is that when the flap is used as the natural bandage after the surgery it may not be the right size. Hence, the complication is an irregular bandage which irritates the eye and causes what is called an irregular astigmatism. This specific LASIK risk is greatly decreased by a newer "bladeless" LASIK procedure.

In bladeless LASIK the blade or microkeratome is no longer used and the risk of complication is hence decreased. It is replaced by another type of laser called IntraLase, which eliminates the potential human error.

Ask your doctor as part of your original process how they deal with a similar situation. When evaluating these LASIK risks it is recommended that you ask you LASIK surgeon how he/she would correct such problems. Some complications that result from LASIK surgery can be made even worse by over or under correction. Ask your doctor as part of your original process how they deal with this specific situation

Can Anyone Have Lasik Eye Surgery?

Can Anyone Have Lasik Eye Surgery?

Can everyone who has a problem with their eyesight apply to have LASIK? Clearly LASIK has got great potential and benefits but just like with any new procedure there are risks associated.

The risk of complications or impaired eyesight after LASIK vision correction can be greatly reduced if you make an effort to establish if you are a good prospect to have LASIK surgery. Not everyone who wants their vision corrected is necessarily a good candidate to have LASIK surgery. Here are a few things to consider before you decide on LASIK:

• If you are risk averse, you probably shouldn't have LASIK laser surgery. There are possible complications that can come about as a result of LASIK that you should consider before having the procedure done.

• Does your insurance cover LASIK vision correction? How would LASIK laser surgery or possible complications affect your career? If having this procedure would impact your life negatively you might consider another alternative.

• Although the cost of having LASIK done is getting cheaper, it is still quite expensive and you'll want to make sure it isn't prohibited by your employer.

• A requirement for LASIK vision correction is that you must be an adult with refractive stability. Refractive instability is common among patients who are 20 or younger with fluctuating hormones. This is caused by several conditions including diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding or taking medications that cause fluctuation in vision.

• People who regularly engage in contact sports or suffer from a condition or disease which may affect the healing of a wound might have to consider an alternative to the LASIK vision correction surgery.

There are a number of other situations one should discuss with your doctor prior to deciding on LASIK laser surgery. If you suffer from conditions such as herpes or shingles that affects the area around the eyes, you should disclose that information. Also, any other conditions, including glaucoma, ocular hypertension, eye diseases, eye injuries, previous eyesurgeries, or keratoconus should also be discussed

Please ask your doctor to screen you for the following conditions prior to LASIK eye surgery:
• Blepharitis
• Large pupils
• Thin corneas
• Previous refractive surgeries
• Dry eyes

Only once you have considered and cleared all of the above conditions or discussed them with a LASIK surgeon, can you determine if you are an excellent candidate for LASIK laser surgery.

Choosing The Right Lasik Surgeon For You?

Choosing The Right Lasik Surgeon For You?

Have you determined if you are the right candidate for LASIK laser surgery by considering all the things that can go wrong, and looking at all the available options? If you have, and you still think it is the right thing to do, then the next logical step is to start looking for a LASIK surgeon.

Even though the risks associated with LASIK are relatively smaller than other conventional types of surgery, you should still take researching a LASIK surgeon seriously. Do your homework by compiling a set of criteria and evaluating each surgeon against this set of criteria.

Carefully consider what each LASIK surgeon regard as their procedure of choice. Do they use the traditional LASIK that uses a blade to make the incision or do they prefer "bladeless" InterLase lasers to make all the cuts. Ask them as to what they regard as the most reliable and what they mostly use.

Don't limit your criteria to cost or experience alone, but look at what you feel most comfortable with. This decision will affect YOU for the rest of YOUR life, so don't do something to please anyone.

Be sceptical about claims such as "20/20 vision" or "your money back guarantees." Once you vision is messed up, no amount of money may be able to restore it. Go as far as checking these doctors against the consumer affairs office or better business bureau to verify that they are in good standing. Know and understand your rights as it relates to surgery and LASIK in general.

Appreciate what can happen during the surgery and ask your potential LASIK surgeon how he/she would deal with a situation that could potentially end a procedure. Mistakes can happen which can lead to your eyes damaged permanently without even a chance to have corrective surgery.

Also ask your LASIK surgeon how he/she would handle the following situations that may come up after surgery. For example,
" migration of the flap,
" inflammation or infection,
" intensive eye drop treatments, or
" additional procedures that may be necessary after the initial surgery.

There is a FDA standard that all LASIK surgeons are held to, which relates to the type of laser used during the surgery. Find out what type of laser your potential LASIK surgeon uses and compare it to the FDA's approved list

Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Demystified!

Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Demystified!

Over the last number of years the world has witnessed amazing advances in the field of medicine, especially with the advent of LASIK laser eye surgery. This revolutionary procedure has both given hope and excited those who experience problems with their eyesight.
But what exactly is LASIK eye surgery?

What happens during LASIK laser surgery is that the lasers correct refractive errors in the cornea. The laser perfectly controls the tearing of the corneal tissue, thereby reshaping the cornea and changing its focus. LASIK surgery follows a simple two step process:
1. A slight, thin flap of tissue is created on the outside layer of the eye or cornea. This flap encourages healing and provides comfort on the way to better vision.
2. The surgeon folds open the flap on the inner cornea to correct the eyesight. Once this is done, the flap is closed to its original position and sealed with stitches.

The word LASIK refers to Laser-Assisted In Sutu Keratomieusis, a process which is characterized by the reshaping of the cornea to refract light in the lens. While LASIK eye surgery is by no means perfect, it is a very viable and increasingly safe surgery.

Government regulations have led to improvements regarding the types of lasers to be used for LASIK laser surgery. If you or anyone you know are considering LASIK laser surgery I would advise you to carefully research the types of lasers used by your local doctors when performing LASIK.

New improvements coupled with the regulated costs of doctors mean that LASIK surgery has become more affordable, making it a possibility for some who could only dream of such improvement a few years back. Some surgeries are referred to as “bladeless” or “custom” LASIK, meaning they are more tailored towards the individual and are therefore more effective

Finally LASIK surgery is an exciting prospect to anyone who has suffered from vision problems in the past. However, just as when buying a car or house, you need to carefully consider all your options before embarking on LASIK.

Can You Afford Lasik Eye Surgery?

Can You Afford Lasik Eye Surgery?

LASIK eye surgery is generally considered to be more expensive than other more conventional surgical procedures. This can in part be attributed to the use of high-tech equipment such as lasers.

Having said that, I think it is worthwhile to mention that the cost of LASIK continues to come down. This is in part due to improvements being made to the overall process, such as the use of more efficient and cheaper lasers.

According to the FDA the average cost of LASIK eye surgery was in the region of $1,344 in 2005. This is a significant reduction from the original numbers listed in 2002 of nearly $1,600.

However, be as it may, when deciding on the type of LASIK eye surgery or surgeon, price should never be the overriding factor. Remember you’re not buying shoes you’re taking a risk, so why not take the best calculated risk by going to someone who has built up a good reputation?

Here are a few things that may help you understand why the costs of LASIK laser surgery are high.
• The fee of leasing the building where the surgery is located
• The leasing or purchase of the laser as well as maintenance of the blades or lasers can increase LASIK cost. Surgeons may also be upgrading to newer and more efficient lasers.
• There may be additional, per eye fees to be paid to the developer or manufacturer of the laser, if the machine is leased.
• You may need special gowns, masks, gloves, medications, or surgical solutions to keep the operating room sterile and safe.
• There may be Advertising and insurance for the office. When you are considering different LASIK surgery options it may be a good idea to ask your surgeon the following:
• What is and what isn’t included in the cost of the LASIK eye surgery?
• What if complications occur or if enhancements are needed. Will I be charged and if so, how much?
• What about the cost of LASIK medications such as anti-inflammatory or painkillers?
• Will I need temporary contact lenses after LASIK? Are they included in the cost or will they be paid for separately?
• What about follow-up visits after LASIK? What are the costs if they are not included in the fee for the surgery?

Don’t forget to contact your insurance company to determine if they cover the cost of LASIK laser surgery. Some insurance companies don’t cover the cost of LASIK because they see it as a cosmetic enhancement.

If financing is not a problem you should strongly consider using a LASIK surgeon who best fits your needs and addresses your concerns.

For those who already had successful LASIK procedures, the cost of LASIK laser eye surgery is a small price to pay compared to the joy offered by their newly improved vision.

Is Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Something For Me?

Is Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Something For Me?

LASIK laser eye surgery is an intricate surgery procedure used to treat all degrees of nearsightedness. The doctor who performs it uses a small scalpel to cut a flap of the cornea, then removes part of the underneath tissue with a laser and put the flap back in its place.

In LASIK eye surgery, the skills of the physician or surgeon are more important than in the PRK procedure, where the computer does most of the work. This is the reason why it is mandatory to find a high-skilled and experienced surgeon who has done several such procedures before to perform it. The success of this procedure depends mainly on the doctor.

This is the reason why it is mandatory to find a high-skilled and experienced surgeon who has done several such procedures before to perform it. The success of this procedure depends mainly on the doctor.

Does LASIK Laser Eye Surgery Have Risks?
For a limited number of patients, LASIK laser eye surgery can have some negative side effects, which include over or under-correction, scarring of the cornea, astigmatism, corneal infections, lower contrast sensitivity or problems with driving at night.

LASIK Laser Eye Surgery versus PRK & RK
There are physicians that still consider other surgical procedures as well. Some patients who had previously decided on LASIK laser eye surgery are often advised to undergo a so called PRK or RK procedure instead. After studying all the options they have and consider the possible side effects, many of them eventually agree on other methods.

Many clinical centers, while they do perform LASIK laser eye surgery in many situations, they claim that other procedures or methods are in some cases more suitable. For instance, some physicians believe that for a small number of patients with low or moderately nearsighted eye conditions, a RK (radial keratotomy) is more appropriate.

In contrast, other physicians and surgeons consider LASIK laser eye surgery as the best option whatsoever. While they do mention other options to their patients, such as PRK or RK, they don't recommend them in favor of these procedures.

Others claim that a RK procedure involves penetrating around 90 percent of the cornea, which can have negative impacts on the structure of the eye. Moreover, once you have undergone a RK surgery, you can never repeat it or have a PRK. This is the reason why some doctors would never recommend this method to anyone.

Lasik: Dallas Expectations

Lasik: Dallas Expectations

When considering lasik, Dallas area residents have a lot to think about. There are countless opportunities for you to find the results you are after with many qualified lasik eye surgeons in this area. Yet, the process of having lasik is quite unique and often relies on the aspects that you set forth. For most patients, the need for this surgery is one that seems simple and an easy decision. You should know, though, that there are countless opportunities but still some risks involved. One thing to consider is what has to happen before your can have lasik done.

One thing to realize is that you can’t wear contact lenses for an extended period of time before having your evaluation and surgery done. This extended time could be just days or it could be weeks. Do you have glasses that can be worn or do you have the ability to see well enough to go without?

In addition to this, the exam itself will be thorough. You will need to schedule a separate appointment in which your lasik eye surgeon will examine your eyes in depth. They will then work on developing your diagnosis doing a number of tests to determine what needs to be done for you. The exam will take about an hour but because of the testing that is required, you should plan on having someone take you and pick you up because you won’t be able to drive afterwards. You may not be able to work that day either.

Learning what to expect is essential when it comes to lasik. Dallas area residents can often find many rewards by simply investing the time in talking with their doctors about what their pre-operative care will be. Having all of your expectations in line for lasik is essential to having a successful experience.

Qualifications For Lasik

Qualifications For Lasik: California Residents Listen Up!

When it comes to lasik, California has the largest number of doctors that provide this surgery. But, remember, numbers don’t mean anything. Lasik eye surgery is a wonderful innovative technology that allows you, the patient, to improve your eye sight to near perfect standards. For this to happen, several key things must play a role in the process. You need to have the right diagnosis and the right equipment to take care of you. One of the foundations of your care will come into play with the skill of the professional eye surgeon that will do the work, too.

There are many aspects of that doctor’s care that should be addressed. For lasik, California does have the largest sector of qualified physicians, but even this should not be enough for you. There are key elements that you must address.

• What type of experience does the doctor have? Good and bad should be discussed.
• What type of equipment will your doctor be using? It must be FDA approved lasers that are specific for this procedure
.• What type of personality do they have? Are you comfortable with them and put at ease? Do you feel as if you could ask anything?
• What type of follow up care do they provide? IS this included in the charge or does it become extra cost?
• What do they see as your potential benefits and drawbacks?

All of these things are essential to ask and to know about the eye surgeon that you take into account. Although there are plenty of physicians that can provide lasik, California residents need to invest the time and research to find out who is the best qualified to provide their services. With the skill that’s necessary and the understanding that makes the difference anyone can feel good about having their lasik procedure done.

What To Expect With Lasik, San Diego

What To Expect With Lasik, San Diego

Having lasik? San Diego is one of the largest areas throughout California and the United States to have patients undergo this surgery. Like any surgery, there are risks that factor into the benefits of having it done. The good news is that many patients do find excellent results from the lasik procedure that they have done. One of the things that you may be interested in is to understand just what happens and what to expect during the surgery. Although it may sound difficult to do, or even painful; it really is not so bad for those that have it done.

The best thing that you can do to prepare yourself for what will happen during your lasik procedure is to educate yourself. Start with talking with your doctor. The key ingredients in a successful surgery are his skills and his equipment. Ask about these aspects and learn as much as you can about what is likely to happen based upon his experience.

In short, the procedure is quite straightforward. Your doctor will prepare you and then will use a knife to remove a flap of the cornea. Since your cornea is not lying correctly which is what causes your vision to not be perfect, he needs to remove some of the stroma, or the layer of tissue directly under the cornea so that it will lay correctly. After he has accomplished this, he replaces the cornea (it remains attached during the whole procedure) and you heal. Of course, lasers of the utmost precision are used to do all of this work.

When you go in to see your lasik specialist for the first time, he or she will walk you through the lasik procedure. The goal is to educate you about lasik. San Diego has some of the very best doctors that provide care and follow up that is excellent and they are also very willing to discuss just how the procedure works with you. Ask questions and make sure you know exactly what will happen.

Lasek: Time Lines

With lasek, it is essential to take time to really pay attention to the details of what your doctor is telling you. Although there are many different questions that you should ask your doctor regarding the eye surgery, you should also concentrate on what to expect in the way of a time line. For many, the thought of going in and having their eyes fixed seems like a simple, straightforward procedure. They think they can walk out with improvement, but that is simply not the case. There is much that you need to know about lasek first.

For example, start with the fact that you need to go in for a consultation first. This will take place days or longer before you will have the lasek eye surgery procedure. It also means that you will need to take into account the number of appointments you need to make. Once you have the surgery, which is likely to be an hour or so long, the next thing to realize is that you won’t be able to see for several hours and it may take you several days before you can drive or work after having it done. That is time that you need to account for beforehand.

It also pays to make a difference in the long term time line. Don’t assume that within a few days your eyes will be perfect. Sometimes, it takes weeks if not months before the final results are achieved. During that time, your eyes may change enough that you’ll need new prescriptions for glasses until they have finished healing.

If you do need to have corrective surgery after this point to repair anything that has happened with the lasek, you can not do this until your prescription has stabilized. This too is a time line that you must take into consideration. Talk with your doctor about your specific situation and the time line that will likely be what you follow.

Biomedics Contact Lenses Bring Your Life Into Focus

Biomedics Contact Lenses Bring Your Life Into Focus

CooperVision’s Biomedics XC contact lenses are 1 to 2 week disposable contacts that are worn as daily lenses for up to two weeks and then discarded. The lenses are made using Biomedics’ patented PC technology, from a unique material containing molecules of phosphorylcholine, which is found naturally in human cell membranes, and they have water content of 60 percent.

Biomedics XC is part of CooperVision’s PC Hydrogels family of contact lenses, a special category of lens material designed for daily wear that offers excellent health and optimum comfort. Hydrogels fit a wide range of patient prescriptions. All contact lenses in the PC Hydrogel category go beyond the minimum acceptable oxygen necessary for safe daily wear.

Biomedics Premier
A study conducted by Pete Kollbaum, OD, FAAO and Arthur Bradley, PhD, has shown that Biomedics Premier aspheric lenses effectively control spherical aberrations, a problem that commonly occurs after laser eye surgery.

Spherical aberration is a problem caused when light refracts, or bends, at different angles as it shines through both the contact lenses and your eyes. Those light rays are then unable to focus on the back of your eyes. The Biomedics 55 soft Premier contact lenses are the first disposable lenses to help direct the light rays to their correct position at the back of your eyes.

CooperVision/Ocular Sciences Biomedics 55 Premier gives you clear, comfortable sight, using an aspheric design to provide you with the best vision possible. You only wear them for two weeks, so you avoid the buildup of pollutants that can irritate your eyesight and cloud your vision. The lenses are infused with a light tint, making them easy to locate in cleaning solution.

Biomedics Toric
The need for effective toric contact lens correction is vital, with statistics stating that more than 50 million Americans have clinically significant astigmatism. Biomedics Toric is made of ocufilcon D and is designed for 2-week planned replacement. It also has a spherical counterpart for use in case the patient is spherical in one eye.

Biomedics ColorsIn
April 2002 what was then Ocular Sciences Inc. (a recent acquisition of CooperVision) announced the introduction of Biomedics Colors, a cosmetic contact lens available in four opaque colors that offers beautiful and natural color enhancement matching the eye’s innate appearance, while continuing to provide the clinically proven performance of Biomedics 55. These lenses make use of proprietary technology that incorporates four patterns of color on each lens, resulting in a natural look that closely replicates the numerous patterns and hues within the human iris.

Of course, with the various types of contacts available, the most important thing to keep in mind is to follow your doctor’s orders on which kind is required for your eyes. If you’re interested in Biomedics contact lenses, check with your doctor and he/she can prescribe the type that’s best for you.

What You Need To Know About Lasik Eye Surgery

What You Need To Know About Lasik Eye Surgery

LASIK eye surgery is growing more popular on a daily basis as the cost for improving your eyesight through laser vision correction surgery continues to drop. After this surgery and seeing the results (no pun intended) you will feel very comfortable with paying the fees associated with laser eye surgery. Just imagine not having to hassle with glasses or contact lenses anymore, but actually being able to see the end of the bed when you wake up in the morning.

LASIK eye surgery, also known as refractive surgery, detects any aberrations by directing a weak laser source into the eye, and by sampling and processing the reflection off the retina. You may have heard or read the horror stories associated with LASIK eye surgery but the truth is that the vast majority of people have a successful laser eye surgery and enjoy a pleasant experience before, during and after surgery. One of the most recognized suggestions by all doctors performing laser eye surgery is to bring a friend or relative with you to the clinic where the eye surgery will be performed.

The cornea and the crystalline lens are not perfect, and light rays passing through the eye are subject to being distorted due to these imperfections. LASIK is a refractive surgery technique that involves reshaping of the cornea via precise ablation. Night vision problems are known to be caused by the irregularity between the untouched part of the cornea and the reshaped part.

Problems with the cornea can be related to many vision troubles like hyperopia (far-sightedness) and myopia (near-sightedness). During your examination prior to surgery, standard eye tests and computer images of the cornea will be obtained to build up a picture of the eye and determine what corrections need should made. The goal of LASIK is to reshape the cornea in order to allow for accurate refraction, which results in the light rays falling exactly on the retina of the eye to provide you with a clear picture. The shape of the cornea is changed permanently once this surgery is performed.

Many people find that after they reach the age of approximately 40, they need reading glasses to read things up close such as a book, magazine or newspaper, even a computer screen. Many people wear contact lenses which corrects their normal vision, but also use reading glasses to read things up close. This is not abnormal. But one of the myths about LASIK eye surgery is that it will eliminate this issue, which is not true. Although a person in this situation will no longer need the contact lenses for normal vision, chances are excellent that reading glasses will still be required to read things up close.

Before going for LASIK, ask your surgeon to detail what the risks are. As with any form of surgery, there are risks involved. There are both benefits and risks to this surgery, and you should be aware of all of them before you decide to have the treatment. Needless to say, we as a society take these kinds of risks every day and may not even know it. Although LASIK is a relatively safe surgery and most people do not have problems after the surgery, it is important to understand that there are still risks involved and what those risks are.

Do your homework and make sure you understand what is involved with LASIK eye surgery beyond just the cost. After all, this is your EYES we’re dealing with here! It is well worth your time and effort to do your homework for a procedure that is going to be a permanent change to your eyes, and this is not the time to be making a snap decision without sufficient research first.

Beverly Hills Lasik Vision Correction

Beverly Hills Lasik Vision Correction: Tips For Making The Right Decision

Throughout Beverly Hills, lasik vision correction is available by some of the world’s best eye surgeons. Those that are looking forward to having improvement in their eye sight should consider what lasik can do for them. Although many don’t realize it, the benefits of lasik are many and they allow you to improve your quality of life and they help you to improve your overall health. For many individuals, there are things that should be taken into consideration about this surgery, though. Here are a few tips that you should follow when considering lasik.

• Schedule a meeting with several lasik eye correction professionals. When you do this, you are able to compare their experience, qualifications, and their personality. You’ll also know which offers the best possible benefits.

• Talk to your insurance company. Don’t assume that they will cover this type of care because most of the time the entire procedure will not be covered. Most Beverly Hills lasik vision correction locations do offer some forms of financing, though.

• Ask your eye surgeon to walk you through the process. Even from the point of sitting in the chair. You want to have a full understanding of what will take place before, after and during the process. This will also help to put you at ease during the process.

• Make sure you talk to someone that can help you through the process. Once you have the procedure done you won’t be able to see for some time, perhaps hours or longer. For that reason, you need to have arrangements ahead of time so that you can have someone to help you.

• Really get your questions answered. Don’t assume anything, just ask. All doctors will go through the process and will allow you to ask questions. Don’t leave without knowing it all.

What To Talk With Your Beverly Hills Lasik Eye Surgeon About

What To Talk With Your Beverly Hills Lasik Eye Surgeon About

Your Beverly Hills lasik eye surgeon is the best person to talk to about your questions and concerns about lasik eye surgery. If you are looking forward to improving your eye sight with this type of surgery, you need and deserve a good conversation with your surgeon. Not only is this the best time to sit and talk with them about what they have to offer to you, but also about the number of wonderful benefits and even the risks that are part of the procedure.

Here are some of the questions that you need to ask your Beverly Hills lasik eye surgeon.

• What amount of pain will you be in? Depending on the exact procedure and the skill of the physician will determine the amount of pain. In addition, ask about the pain medications that will be offered to you.
• When will you start to see results, literally? Within the first day or so you won’t have much if any vision, but how long will it take to see well again?
• What is the cost? And, will insurance cover it? These are questions you need to get ironed out before you actually begin talking about signing up for the surgery. Most insurance companies will only cover certain aspects of this elective surgery. Call them and find out!
• What’s the time line for everything happening? From the time that you have your initial exam, to having the surgery and finally seeing the improvement with thorough healing, how does it all work?

Most importantly, talk with your Beverly Hills lasik eye surgeon about any concerns and worries that you have. By going into the procedure with all of this information under your belt, you will ultimately see the results you want and know what you are up against. If you don’t ask these questions for some reason, you leave yourself vulnerable and worried.

Are You A Bad Candidate For Lasik Eye Surgery?

Are You A Bad Candidate For Lasik Eye Surgery?

Lasik eye surgery is not the right thing for everyone. Although there are many individuals that can see remarkable improvement with eye surgery, some are just not the right candidates for the job. That’s because of the eye conditions or the risks that they face. The eye surgeon that you are working with will talk with you specifically about your actual benefits versus the risks of lasik. They will also tell you if you even are a person that can consider having lasik eye surgery at all. Some of the reasons why lasik eye surgery may not be right for you include these.

• If you are talking medications like steroids or medications that will limit the healing that your body can do, you may not qualify.
• If the costs are too high and you simply do not have coverage with your insurance company, you too may be limited.
• If you have an autoimmune disease or some other type of major illness or chronic condition, you may not qualify. This will depend on what condition you have.
• If you have a prescription for glasses that is quite strong, have a prescription that changes often, or you have a need to wear your glasses only some times, you may not qualify.
• If your career depends on your eye sight, you may want to consider your options closely.
• Your eye’s physical condition may also make a difference. Things like the pupil’s size, the amount of tear production that you have as well as the corneal thickness that you experience, all matter.

Although many individuals are the perfect candidate for lasik eye surgery, others have other conditions that stop them from having lasik performed. Your doctor will work with you to determine your level of risk and ability to have it before making any promises to you.
